About Dr. Dominque Vedrine, LMFT

VEDRINE39DONE.jpg

A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER,

On the pathway to creating my “picture-perfect” life, I experienced several unexpected life-altering difficulties that often left me questioning my worldview and pushing me out of my comfort zone. Conflicted with wanting to run away or ignore what was happening, I decided to listen to the voice within and lean into the discomfort and face my hard truths. My willingness to acknowledge my fears and grow through my pain has been instrumental in helping my ability to both understand and assist others with their journey of moving from a position of pain to one of power.

As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vedrine’s Healing and Consulting Services, I use my mixture of my educational background, personal and professional experiences to provide a healing presence in the collaborative work I do with individuals, families, organizations and educational institutions. My objective is to help heal, inspire and serve others through the questioning and acquisition of their knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and behaviors.

It is my belief that true healing, impactful healing, starts from within. Through my experience with personal hardships and what society would see as failures, I came to the realization that perfection is an illusion and that a more realistic and obtainable goal was for one to strive for excellence. I pride myself on using the tools of transparency, effective communication, accountability and empathy to help individuals and organizations tap into and utilize their strengths to reach their full potential.

My educational background includes having earned my Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of San Diego and my Doctorate degree in Couple & Family Therapy from Drexel University.   I have over 15 years’ experience working in higher academia as a former adjunct instructor wherein I taught undergraduate courses at University of South Carolina (USC) Upstate’s psychology department & Greenville Technical College’s Human Services department. I also taught graduate students in the marriage & family therapy program at Converse College.

As a licensed marriage & family therapist I have extensive (over 20 years) clinical experience, providing therapy to individuals and families across the nation. Specifically, I have had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents and their families, facing traumatic situations, emotional, behavioral and life transition challenges from various backgrounds across different settings. I’ve come to realize that whether working as a therapist serving children and adolescents in an inpatient locked down psychiatric facility in San Diego, CA or working as a therapist in a Federally Qualified Health Center in Philadelphia, PA or Spartanburg, SC;  I am a former forensic evaluator, behavioral health clinician, parent educator, and crisis interventionist. Presently, I provide therapy to young mothers and birth persons through Birth Matters, a Community-Based Doula program in Spartanburg, SC.

Currently, I serve as  the  lead facilitator with Speaking Down Barriers,  wherein I co-facilitate and help develop curriculum content for community dialogues and education programs addressing issues of racism, social power and privilege. My research interests include promoting resiliency in individuals and family systems; confronting and healing the wounds of systematic oppression in our society and understanding the concept of intersectionality.

All this said, I consider myself and the team I have the privilege of working with to be agents of hope and proactive initiators of positive change. Focused on helping others address and transform their lives for the better.
